The developers at Treetops lodges have worked hard to design a park that provides sustainable living.
The lodges are made from Nordic pine, 210mm logs, individually insulated, sculptured and pegged with traditional square pegs. This in itself provides natural thermal insulation, which means your lodge will be cool in the summer, retain the heat in the winter and reduce running costs. The lodges have been built to survive the Finnish winters (to minus 30).
These lodges are NOT mobile homes. They are log cabins, situated on a brown field site and have been built to full British building regulations.
Treetops Lodges have chosen Honka lodges (Finland), not only for the quality of their lodges, but for their conservation and recycling practices.
Every care has been taken to reduce the carbon footprint. Under floor heating combined with either air or ground source heat pumps, 9-watt halogen recessed spot lighting, Grade A rated kitchen appliances and rain and storm water collection systems
An air source heat pump can run the under floor heating and hot water systems. This extracts the heat from surrounding air, and heats to between 35-45°C. It is then topped up to a maximum of 75°C with an emersion heater and stored in an insulated water cylinder. We expect to make savings of around 50% per annum compared to the cost of a conventional system based upon gas, oil or electricity.
A Rain water collection system is used to collect the rain water from the individual lodge roofs, which is then fed back to provide brown water for toilet cisterns and a washing machine. A storm water collection system removes the excess water surrounding the lodge to a pond. Each lodge has a rainwater butt for general gardening use. The lodges are finished with an environmentally friendly stain imported from Finland, to protect against ultra violet rays; the colour of which is chosen by the purchaser.
The surrounding ground is landscaped to encourage the native wildlife. |

| Not only are these technologies kind to the environment, but also reduce the running cost of each individual unit. Leaving you with a first class log cabin, combining old and new technology, whose maintenance and upkeep is lower than a conventional building. |

Honka's Sustainable Practices
Honka conducts its work practices as environmentally friendly as possible.
In Finland, there are strict harvesting rules to protect the valuable commodity of the pine forests.
Honka entrusts that for every tree that is cut, seven more are planted, which has resulted in the growth of Finish forests to exceed the volume of trees being removed.
Honka has sighted its factories within the forests so as to keep the transporting of logs to a minimum.
Within the factories, no by product is wasted.
The stripped wood from the outer of the tree is sold to the paper manufacturing trade. |
| The wood by-products are burnt to provide energy for the entire plant and provide the local town of Karstula with a third of their energy consumption. |
